Diwali, also known as the “Festival of Lights,” is one of the most significant and popular festivals celebrated in India and by people of Indian origin around the world. The festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali is a time for families and friends to come together, exchange gifts, light candles and lamps, and enjoy traditional Indian sweets and delicacies.

This year, Diwali will be celebrated on November 1, 2024 in Canada. During the same period, another Indian festival, Karwa Chauth, that is celebrated on the fourth day after the full moon night before Diwali will fall on October 20, 2024.

Experience the festivities, and the rich culture and traditions of India by partaking in a variety of activities, such as workshops, cultural performances, games, and shopping, while indulging in several Indian delicacies.

To celebrate this occasion, we are bringing to you a fun-filled Diwali and Karwa Chauth gathering on October 19, 2024 at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre (1280 Dundas St W) in Oakville, Ontario.

Experience the festivities, and the rich culture and traditions of India by partaking in a variety of activities, such as workshops, cultural performances, games, and shopping, while indulging in several Indian delicacies.

CULTURAL PERFORMANCES

There will be live music and dance performances by local artists, showcasing the vibrant and diverse Indian culture. The performances will include traditional folk dances, classical dances, and Bollywood-style dances.

FOOD & DRINKS

There will be a variety of Indian food, snacks, sweets, and drinks available, allowing visitors to indulge in the authentic flavours of India.

EXHIBITION

The event will feature an exhibition showcasing the history, significance, and traditions of Diwali and Karwa Chauth. There will be displays of traditional Indian clothing, jewellery, artwork, home decoration material, candles, diyas, idols, puja material, and other cultural artefacts.

GAMES & WORKSHOPS

There will be workshops for children and adults such as diya painting, candle making and jewellery making. Jyoti Pratishthan will also feature games like Tambola and services like henna tattoos and face painting.

Jyoti Pratishthan aims to promote cultural diversity and provide an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to come together and celebrate this joyous festival. It is expected to be a fun-filled and educational event, appealing to both the young and the old, and will serve as a platform to share the essence of Indian culture with the wider community.

At Jyoti Pratishthan, we plan to bring together a diverse range of people, including:
